I just received the repress for Okkultokrati’s Knarkskog EP. This time we did a batch of 100 copies on transparent red vinyl.

This will be for sale at the No Light For Mass releaseparty this upcoming Friday and will find it’s way into various distros starting from next week.

Okkultokrati will do a few shows around Norway this fall, entitled Necromantic Norway, with Haust and Årabrot. First one is at John Dee in Oslo September 16th.

With lyrics like this, from the opening track ON MOUTH OF HELLS, the four clusterfucks in Okkultokrati starts unleashing their fascination for the atheist metaphysics. Looking beyond the colorful rainbows and happy-go-fatal philosophies of the new age movement, the band focus more on the darker side; aborted reincarnations, astral mutilation, and telepathic deportation. This negative energy is channeled into 9 tracks of nekro spirituals and encourages spiritual rationality.

Musically the band continues their blend of punk and metal they introduces on the Knarkskog EP, only this time they are heavier, dirtier and even more bitter..all drenched in the stench of Poison Idea, Celtic Frost and Black Sabbath!

The CD version on Fysisk Format came out on May 17th and has already received some nice reviews (all in Norwegian):

Anyway, the Vinyl version will come with its own artwork, a sick gatefold sleeve on heavy stock rough cardboard and 180g black vinyl! The whole shebang designed by Sebastian Rusten, who also did the Knarkskog EP. The Vinyl version is a collaboration between myself, the band and their Ormeyngel records, Fysisk Format and Odio Sonora

First of all, thanks to Jon Kruithof, this page is now running on wordpress and has a neat mp3 player as well. Should make updating and maintaining this a whole lot easier for a lazy bastard like myself.

The Okkultokrati - Knarkskog EP is still available from myself and at Tiger and Radio Schizo Distro (Trondheim). Looop will get re-stocks soon.

Okkultokrati has recorded a full-length album called No Light For Mass. It’s highly likely that Lilla Himmel will be involved in this release in a yet to be determined way. Fysisk Format will for sure be releasing this beast and the release date is set to 29.03.2010.

This year will hopefully also see a release(s) with a band I’m in called Brent Barn. Format and details are a little up in the air right now, but we are in the process of recording some songs as we speak. If you have not heard the band, there is a demo of a song recorded last year in the mp3 player and even more on the link above.

So what is this release then?? Well it’s the debut 7″ from the Oslo sludge punkers in Okkultokrati and their Knarkskog EP. This is a 4 track 7″ pressed in 200 copies in a collaboration with the bands own Ormeyngel label. For those who don’t know Okkultokrati, the band consist of members originating from the darkest alleys, thickest woods and highest mountains in Norway. Musically they are somewhere between Black Flag and Darkthrone.

Since the band did not want to go empty handed to their show in the woods of Notodden few weeks ago, the band made some covers for 30 copies where available at that show or through the band directly.

The great coverart and label logo are made by Sebastian Rusten.

The Oslo radio Radio Nova has a-listed the song Dopecradle from the Knarkskog EP.
Here is what they wrote about the song:
Oslobandet Okkultokrati slapp sin debut ”Knarkskog EP” 25. august. Bandet som har medlemmer fra bl.a Common Cause og Haust overøser deg med en klassisk miks av hardcore, pønk og svartmetall. ”Dopecradle” skifter fra å gå i et høyt hardcore-tempo til å roe ned til repetative gitarriff i black metal-stil. Uansett stilart er dette både melodiøst og rytmisk, med et nihilistisk tankesett som utgangspunkt for det aggressive uttrykket. Svart, er forøvrig ordet som kanskje best beskriver bandet som helhet. I tillegg til navn på bandmedlemmer som Black Death og Black Qvisling, referanser som Black Flag og Black Sabbath, fronter de Knarkskog EP med en heftig, syk og mørk covertegning. EP’en er ute på vinyl i bare 200 kopier!

Okkultokrati share members with Haust and more than a slight resemblance soundwise, but they are definitely way more on the current pessimistic hardcore zeitgeist tip than the latter. Haust mix hardcore aggression with black metal nihilism, Okkultokrati are just aggro. If you dig on the contorted sounds of Sex Vid, Total Abuse, Cult Ritual or any other like-minded negative creeps (overused Brainbombs references are a surefire tip-off), you’ll probably dig this too, especially if you wish those bands had a heavier rhythmic integrity. The debut “Knarkskog EP” (free d/l here) won’t usurp “Communal living” as the subset standard-bearer, but it’s way better than some and bodes well for the future.
